Rubber band ligation of hemorrhoid

Rubber band ligation is a procedure when the hemorrhoid is tied off at its base by rubber bands in order to cut off the blood flow to the hemorrhoid.

The hemorhhoid shrinks and dies,  in a week period, and falls off. A scar tissue  is formed in the place of hemorrhoid, holding nearby veins so they do not bulge into the anal canal.

If hemorrhoid ligation treatment is held in doctor’s office, 1 or 2 hemorrhoidal tumors may be treated at a time. Three or more hemorrhoidal tumors are treated using general anesthesia only. If it is needed to treat additional areas the procedure may be repeated in 4-6 weeks.
